Current mood: pleased
Current music:Suddenly Seymour | Little Shop of Horrors

I had to have a slight deviation from my regularly scheduled class today. When I came into the room, I was whistling "Suddenly Seymour". My bunch of kids this year is far too curious and precocious to just let that go. One of them, Chuck, raised his hand and asked me what song I was humming. So we took a field trip to YouTube via the projector and I showed them the scene from Little Shop of Horrors.

Then they were all singing it as they worked on their Jamestown drawings. Kids are amazingly cool.

I wish I'd had a teacher like that back in the day. Hell, I wish just our magic teacher had been like that. Instead of "Suddenly Seymour" we got "Greensleeves" on the recorder.

You know what's sad? For years, I knew how to play that on the recorder but only recently did I learn it has words! I like it so much better with words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZL-C8yzb80

Sort of like "Old Folks At Home". They've become musical staples, but without words, they sound like music you'd hear while waiting on hold. xD

OMG! Davy Jones! <3 Sadly, I think I may also remember how to play some of this from elementary school.

Now if you could play Here We Go A Wassailing, well, I would be completely impressed.

It wasn't the bane of my existence as much as "Hot Crossed Buns" was. Ugh, that song.

Is that a challenge?!

Yankee Doodle made me want to commit mini-person homicide back in the day. I still can't stand to hear that song.

Oh. I think it is. You successfully play Here We Go A Wassailing and I owe you a beer. Or if you don't drink, something preferable and equal in prizeness to a beer.

Oh yes, that song definitely makes me grit my teeth every 4th of July.

You're on! Is there a time frame in which I should learn it and play it for you? Just be warned, I may show up at your place of work and perform it for you. While dressed as a slightly anachronistic caroler.

If you came into my place of work dressed as a caroler of any sort and played me songs on the recorder? Whatever they were, I'd buy you a beer. Just because that's awesome.

Oh, it totally is. I will now spend my hours at work eagerly anticipating!
